Ulisses

Ulisses is a creative and an ambitious experiment. Is a hitory about a dubliner and what he does during the 24 hours a day. It is a different way totally, to give shape to a different reality. This novel talks about the dubliner's thoughts that moving them in to his mind. For ex., he saw the cat, this cat suggests him a thought, and this thought suggests to another one. This technique is named "steam of conciousness". The main character is Leopold Bloom, is the most defined of the other characters of the novel. The history talks about relations with other and several characters too, like Stephen, who is the son that Leopold wants, hopes or has tried to find. Joyce tries that characters walking around the city looking for themselves.

This novel is an example of the modernist and naturalist novels. Some important techniques are used in this novel like the interior monologue (monólogo interior) or the current of consciousness (corriente de conciencia).

Ulisses is written in different ways; for example, in one chapter, the author performs a "novela rosa" parody, in another is like a religious or a catechism chapter, and in another is like a news paper report ... It is possible to say that this novel is a reference of the greatest history of the occidental literature, "La Odisea".

In this novel yo can see some modernist preocupation for trying that narrative technique expreses a different way to see the reality. This style is named "Bildumgsroman", term used to defiine this narrative form. "A portrait of the art ...", is about a teenager with artistic aspirations, and the characters live desconected of the reality, world ...

There are different autobiographic elements like the idea of a teenager who is alone and desconected of the society.

An important topic in the play is the search of the father, like happens in Joyce's life too.

This novel shows an special attention to the heroe, main character, where it is talked about the heroe during the novel practically, leaving the other characters in second plane, where the protagonist is the key.
