First of all, phonology doesn’t care about what is the perfect pronunctiation, this science only focus on the study of all pronunctiations!!!
In this page we will be looking at the phonology of English. Although we will be concentrating mostly on what has became standard pronunciation of British English, namely RP or Received Pronunciation. The term Received echoes the old-fashioned sense of ‘received’ as meaning ‘generally accepted’.
The main reason for choosing this accent of English is that it is the type of pronunciation that is generally taught in European universities. Furthermore, RP has traditionally been used by the Royal Family, news announcers on the BBC, in public shcools, in universities and by those who work in the professions: doctors, lawyers, architects, etc.
Historically, RP was developed among the better-off members of society from the Early Modern English period i the triangle formed by the cities of London, Cambridge and Oxford.
