INTRODUCTION TO HYPERTEXT

Before starting, I would like to offer a briefly introduction by my own words of what a hypertext is, taking into account the research I did about hypertext and electronic literature.

Electronic literature is the kind of fiction that appears always through Internet and whose way of reading is non-linear; that is, the reader is not obliged to follow the lines consequently. Inside the text there are another links that can take the reader to other part of the text; which must not be the next or the previous one. In this kind of texts all the visual effects, the sounds, the background, etc have an important value in the completely understanding of the text. Thus, the reader can give to the text the considered meaning taking into account all the issues I said before. The reader is the most important part in this kind of literature because the final meaning of a hypertext will depend on its own interpretation of what it can see, listen to, or read at the same time.

LINKS RELATED

o       These links are the ones that the author of this research (Deena Larsen) has written about or some examples that she takes part in the development of electronic literature or hypertext fiction. These are the ones I mainly based my research on.

- http://www.informatik.uni- trier.de/~ley/db/indices/a-tree/l/Larsen:Deena.html (it is also another webpage of Deena Larsen and the actualization of www.deenalarsent.net)

o       These links are some of the many sources that are now available in the net that take to a wider explanation of electronic literature, hypertext definitions, etc. I selected these four ones because I think they offer a simple and useful information.
