ARBORERECTA: Time Analysis

TIME ANALYSIS

The temporal analysis will be sequenced from James Green’s birth to the present situation. The story of James’ process of change is represented by pictures of different stages of a tropical tree, starring as the different stages of this individual’s evolution and transformation.

MEN COMMUNE SECRETLY WITH TREES

In the first chapter we meet Pandanus, a tropical fruit coming from tropical trees found in the high lands of New Guinea. It shows us their roots, stem and sap throughout a picture comparing it with men and women.

RITUAL WITH TREES DEVELOPES MASCULINE IDENTITY

In Chapter II, the first photos of James Green appear, from his birthday in 1948, up to when she was a beautiful ten-year-old girl, as well as the photo of his graduation day. This photos clearly show us his physical aspect, totally feminine, although at the foot of some photos we can also find moving commentaries made by himself, in which she says that she tried very hard to be a girl.

PANDANUS DIODECIOUS: MALE/FEMALE SEPARATE

In Chapter III we have a brief text which explains us the features of the trees, male or female, with a photo of his childhood, when she was a girl, to show us that in that moment of his life she was starting to dress and act as a boy, and at the same time she was forced to go to school with a dress.

We find the parallel photo to Pandanus at the same time that we find Jame’s evolution in another one. In short, it shows us their growth and development in their first stages of life.

GROWING TO BECOME A MALE

In Chapter IV, the picture appearing first, shows a hermaphrodite flower, which actually is what she feels, and consequently will provoke her an internal conflict in his adolescent life, up to when she decides to grow as a man.

We can observe him here with his first son by artificial insemination.

A MAN MUST ADAPT TO THE FOREST LIFE

In Chapter V she convinces us that a man can adapt to nature and the other way round, living together with it, as it is shown in a picture in which appears a human face from which some leaves are growing. This way it is produced the moment of adaptation to each other.

PURIFICATION IN THE FOREST

In Chapter VI the real transformation is produced, after having realized the sexual act with the tree, after the actual union, as we can appreciate in the picture, in which the man is completely joined to nature in its purest state.

At the same time, the text reproduces some phrases made by her, in which she explain the effects of testosterone: firstly, I t was an increase of libido; in four weeks her voice started to break and. In eight weeks her menstruation disappeared. It was in that moment that she began to feel calm.

INGESTIVE AND INSERTIVE RIGHTS

In Chapter VII she describes that is made after the sexual act. This would set us in the moment in which she starts to be a man.

PREPARING THE SKIN

In Chapter VIII, she shows us that sex and gender in a person have more relation with the internal life than with genitals. She compares the scales of the tree and its oils with the growth of beard and the sweat production of the man, something that she considers essential for the biological transformation into a male.

EGESTIVE TITES TO RID THE FEMALE

In Chapter IX she expresses some refuse to everything related to feminine sexuality. It may be the period James is living after his transformation. Even she begins to say that it pollutes men and that it can make them ill, at the time that she compares it with some ritual techniques of the forest.

THE SELF-MADE MAN

In Chapter X, we find the completely transformed man by himself, through an operation in which the clitoris is released from its hood. It appears a very representing picture of masculinity and, below, it shows us the end of the process, at the same level of its state nowadays.
