The Inn

The youth, after the gallows episode, returns to the road. There he founds a carter who asks the youth to go with him to an inn. In the Spanish version, “Juan sin miedo”, it is said that the carter takes the youth to a tavern, but more than a tavern, the right word should be an inn, because the carters are the lorry drivers of today, they transported the merchandise from one place to another, they used to travel during the day, and when the night got close, they used to go to a place where someone could look after their animals (normally pack mules and horses).

The inn was managed by the innkeeper and his wife, who was the fist person that admired the youth and told him that he was very handsome.

The inn should have two floors. On the bottom floor there should be the dining room and on the top floor, the guest rooms. Next to the inn, or inside this one, there would be the stables where animals could rest.

The inn was, and continues being nowadays, a meeting place, were people used  to drink, to speak with each other, and to find about all the news and gossip (in the old says there weren’t any newspapers, radio, or television so the news were transmitted by word of mouth.

At the inn, the youth finds out that there is a hunted castle and that the King from the place has promised his daughter’s hand (who is absolutely beautiful) to whoever manages to pass three nights inside of the castle.
