The class work that I am going to do about a theatrical genre is going to be centred in the comedy and my work is going to be inspired in the play “las variaciones Goldberg”. I am going to start my work speaking about the genres in general. The genres are movements that are followed by people and it has success if it likes to them. Social-political and cultural situations make authors write and create plays adapted to the situation. The first thing that I am going to explain in this work about the comedy, is, its origins. The comedy has its origins in Greece; its original name was k? µ?d?a or ??µo??. The plays that represented where there were very different to the comedy that we understand nowadays. It was like a parade in honour to Dionysus (god of party and of wine). The theatrical genres have developed into themselves have grown up new genres that are like semi-genres. Those semi-genres are always going to have characteristics of the first that is the initial and the important; but at the same time they will be changing with the pass of time, style of the authors. I am going to continue my work explaining the comedy with the help of a play that is “las variaciones Goldberg”: The comedies; like I have said were celebrations like parties, and actors made the play with songs and dances and in this way people enjoyed a lot and for this reason the comedy started to develop so fast. At the end of the VIth century, the comedy and the tragedy were together as in the play “las variaciones Goldberg”. They were not like the previous shows of Aristophanes in Greece; those were represented in places like our theatres of our times. Traditionally, the comedy has been used to make people laugh about real things that happen in the real life. In the past, the society was divided in statements and one statement laugh about the other statement and his debilities. So, we know that the comedy has improved, but in fact, it has now, the same objective than in the past, to make people spend a good time. If we compare the play “las variaciones Goldberg” with the theory of the comedy, we can observe that it has lots of characteristics in common. The objective of the play “las variaciones Goldberg” is to make people laugh about something; in this case we are laughing about the bible and of the characters that there are in it. In this play we can realise that there are the comedy and the tragedy at the same time. If we observe the play and we study it with more intellectual capacity, and we study the origins of the comedy, we can observe that in this play there are present the black comedy or the tragedy, for example. In this play we could see the character of Goldberg who is the main character, like in the bible Jesus, who is the main character too and he suffers lots of tragedies. In the play Jesus is going to be crucified but in the real life Goldberg is suffering lots of insults of Mr.Jota. On the contrary we have parts of this play that show us the comical part of the bible. For example, in the part of the dance of the Jewish, or the moment of the Ten Warrants. We realise that the author is mocking and laughing and making a big joke about the bible and the church in general. Finally, I have to remark, also, the part when Mr. Jota represents the character of José and he is crying. Then Jesus come there and says him (who is his father): - go there (at the back) in this play you never are present!!!!!!!!!! Here the author wants to show us that Jose; although he is the father of Jesus, he represents nothing in the Bible. And it is the last laugh of the play. From my point of view the comedy has improved for people to make them happier. And I think it is what the Greeks wanted at first when they invented it, they wanted to spend a good time and make people feel the same. |
