The paper that I am going to write is about the play Far Away. The author of this play is a woman whose name is Caryl Churchill. It was written in 2000 and it has three acts.

The dramatis persona of this play is very short because there are only three characters; they are: Joan who is the main character, Harper who is the aunt of Joan and finally Todd, the Joan's boyfriend.

The description of the characters can be shown in the play easily because in their actions they do we know immediately how they are.

For example, Joan is a woman very enterprising and she is never afraid because of the contrary (because as I am going to explain in the plot, in the play starts the world war) and if she has to kill, she kills.

Her aunt is a little strange because she does not want to have Joan and Todd in her house and it proves that she is of the contrary.

Todd is a boy who I never have known what ha wants only that he loves Joan.

The plot of the play is a little difficult to explain because in a war everybody is angry and all the people untidy.

It makes the play a little untidy too.

At the beginning of the play Joan is living with her aunt and she hears strange noises, these noises are because her uncle is with people who are crying. Joan can not to know what it is.

The time pass and she meet a boy who is going to live with her in her aunt's house and who is going to fall in love with.

The world war started and they are into it too.

They live in Harper's hose but she does not like it because I think she is of the contrary and I think she does not want to help them.

Joan has a mission but we do not know what mission is it. She is a good woman but when she has to kill somebody, she kills.

The play is related in words that are not so many hard and the groups of the war are named as groups of animals.

The cats, the butterflies, the elephants etc…

At the end of the play we do not know anything of the characters; because I do not know in which group is Joan, for example

The places of the play are the following:

At work; where Todd and Joan have met. They fall in love there thanks to that then they are together.

And the house of Harper: there, they have the discussions, they live, and the most important: they protect them selves.

The time of the play is in the world war.

It is written in present and it has all the coherence but it has a big jump of some years.

The style resorts of this play are the quality of the information that she gives us about a war and the simply language that she uses. We can understand the almost all the words because is a colloquial speech.

The difficulties of this play are the literary resorts, because she uses a metaphorical language. For instance in the name of the groups of the war, she uses names of animal to determine groups of people and it shows us the view of the wars: people are like the animals. It is a pejorative language that she uses to make us thinking about this behaviour.

The general aspects are that that play represents a world that is in war and also the feminism. The main character is a woman who is never afraid, she can kill if she needs it and she never runs away when she has a problem.

My personal opinion is that I have liked this play, but I like more when I know the end of the stories. I like it because it combines the worse that is a war with the best that is the love.
