Title of the paper :  “The importance of Sly in The Taming of the Shrew”

Author or topic: William Shakespeare.

Abstract :  “The Taming of the Shrew” begins with an induction scene and here we meet  Christopher Sly who is a poor tinker. In this paper we will see who Sly is, why he is important in the play, which his relationships are with other characters and his function in this comedy.

Title of the paper :  “The Characterisation in Shakespearean Comedies”

Author or topic : William Shakespeare.

Abstract : This collective paper deals with the comic characterisation in Shakespeare’s plays. After pointing out the main conventions of Shakespeare’s comedies, we develop in several points how a comic character is created. To that purpose, we analyse extrinsic elements such as the recreation of social stereotypes, costumes, hairstyle, make-up or voice tone. Moreover, as an improvement of the first paper, we support the theory with examples from characters we dealt with in our individual papers. Here is my contribution to the collective paper.

Title of the paper :  “Male dominance in A Midsummer Night’s Dream and The Taming of the Shrew”.

Author or topic : William Shakespeare.

Abstract : In my paper I would like to talk about two characters from two different plays in terms of  “male dominance” in Shakespeare’s comedies. One of these characters is EGEUS in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, the other character is MINOLA BAPTISTA in The Taming of the Shrew. Almost in every play of Shakespeare we can see the dominance of males over women. In his plays women have no right to say what they think or to to what they want. They are always expected to be faithful to their fathers and husbands. They don’t have any freedom about their lives. However we know that this attitude of men against women in Shakespeare’s plays is a reflection of Renaissance society.

Auto-evaluation : I attended all the classes and I tried to do my best in the four essays despite all the troubles that I had. However, I really enjoyed preparing the presentations and researching for the papers. Therefore I think that I deserve a good mark to pass.
