Descendiendo de la Madriguera del Conejo

This was quite hard for me to translate; there was a lot of dialogue, which I find harder to translate than a regular piece of text or an article. This was also quite a long extract from the book so it took me a while to finish this piece. When Alice was falling and she was talking to herself I found that quite difficult because I had to use the reflexive quite a lot and because it was ÔherselfÕ all the time it wasnÕt as easy than if it had been to someone else for example Ôif I shall fallÕ and ÔI wonder how many miles I have fallenÕ.

Dillon en Dolor

I found this text a lot easier to translate, as it was written in a more colloquial and modern language. It is also written in a more informal language that is more likely to be used nowadays. The words I didnÕt know were easy to find even in a small dictionary like the Collins pocket dictionary, for example with words likeÕ sufrimientoÕ and ÔfelicidadÕ when I needed to check the endings. I used wordreference.com to help with some of the phrases like Ôme ense–oÕ and Ôa menudoÕ because it gave examples so I was able to understand the phrase better.

Ulysses

I found the language of this text very confusing even in English, and so translating this was quite difficult for me. Also the dialogue made it difficult, because I felt I had to change the pattern of translating to compensate for the ÔcolloquialÕ dialogue of the text. A lot of it seemed to be a kind of slang like Ôold chapÕ and ÔgentsÕ. There were a lot of strange words, some I didnÕt know even in English so that was quite difficult for me. The text seemed to jump around a bit, which also confused me, but a lot of phrases were used so that made it easier to a certain extent.

 Las Doce Princesas Baillarines

This text was quite long and so took quite a lot of time as well as being harder to translate. There were a lot of reflexive verbs and pronouns, which I find take me longer to understand and translate but mostly the language was quite difficult to comprehend. Also it didnÕt seem like the story fit together and ended abruptly so it was confusing, as I was thinking that I had missed parts out. However, wordreference.com helped me a lot to work out which phrases I could use that made sense and fit in with the context.
