1. Who is Walter Raleigh (1552-1618)?

Walter Raleigh wanted to create colonies in USA. In 1584 he founded Virginia.

2. Which was Walter Raleigh's settlement and what happened to it?

It was Roanoke, which was revisited a second time by John White (1540-1593) who was an amateur painter. However, the colony failed because out of resources people fought each other until there was nobody left.

3. When was Jamestown founded?

The colony was founded in 1607 .

4. Which other colonies were founded by the Virginians?

Maryland and the Carolinas.

5. What Native American words were borrowed?

Squaw, papoose, skunk, toboggan, moccasin, chipmunk, wigwam, tomahawk.

6. Which Native American phrases appear?

Bury the hatchet

Go on the warpath

7. What part of England did the Pilgrims of Plymouth come from?

Mainly from the South and East like Cambridge, Bedford, Boston, Braintree and Lincoln .

8. What difference of pronunciation exists between Virginians and Pilgrims?

Virginians have a rhotic accent while Pilgrims don't have it.
