The
Plot
Brian
and Prior Aymer travel to Rotherwood, home of Cedric the Saxon. The Pilgrim
(Wilfred of Ivanhoe) leads them to their destination
after Cedric's servants (Gurth and Wamba) led them in the w
rong
direction. After dinner, the Pilgrim (Wilfred) rescues Isaac the Jew from
danger. Isaac rewards him with horse and armor for the tournament at Ashby.
Wilfred defeats all of his opponents at the tournament, but a knight wounds
him in the melee. Rebecca cares for his wound. Three Norman knights capture
Cedric,
Rowena, Athelstane, Wilfred, Rebecca, and Isaac and take them to Torquilstone.
The Black Knight (Richard I) and a band of outlaws (Robin Hood) rescue
all of the prisoners except Rebecca. Brian takes her to Templestowe. The
Grand Master tries her for witchcraft, but Wilfred saves her from death
by defeating Brian, the Templar champion. Rebecca and Isaac leave England,
and Wilfred marries Rowena. Cedric forgives Wilfred, and Richard I ends
Prince John's plot to take the throne. As the novel ends, Wilfred serves
under the king until Richard's death.
