Title of the paper : Victory
Garden – A study of time
Author or topic :
Victory Garden by Stuart Moulthrop
Abstract: In this paper I am showing the
results of my study of the hypertext Victory Garden, by Stuart Moulthrop (see bibliography). I
have focused especially on the use of time in this hypertext;
how the different parts I´ve studied are set temporally; and how
we, the readers, get the impression of the time the characters are in
(or talk about). Mostly it is set in the present, with few references
to the past; the characters are having conversations or thoughts that
are meant to be contemporary to the reading. As I said in my blog, I think the Starting Point called ‘Boris
Urquhart gets the news’ is the one that has the most references to
time. Other than that, this
hypertext centers around a very concrete period of time in recent
history: The Gulf War that broke in 1991, and
the characters´ reaction to it.
