THE
THEATRE IN THE FUTURE

So, if we pretend to
talk about the theatre in the future, we need to attend to a very important and
basic element: THE ETERNITY. The theatre is eternal because it reflects the
reality. There have been theatre in the past, there is theatre in the
present and, I think without doubt that, there will have in the future.
The theatre is a
spectacle that has existed from the beginnings of the times in whatever city or
country (Greece, Rome,...). Because of what, I think that we must also know
something about the area or the country where the theatre is performed.
I’m referring to the
level social, economical and cultural of a country. The inversion’s
possibilities on the theatre depending of it. To this certain situation, it is
necessary add the interest that these countries have to invest over the
educational and cultural sectors in a society.
On the other hand, there
are other two elements which must be emphasized: THE INNOVATION and THE
AUDIENCE. The theatre needs audience and because of that it needs to innovate.
If there is INNOVATION,
there are MORE AND NEW AUDIENCES and, if there are more and new
audiences, the FUTURE, the ETERNITY of the theatre is guaranteed.
However, I’m not going
to write here about the future of the theatre, but I’m going to write about the
theatre of the future attending to the named aspects.
According to different resources
and techniques used we can talk of different kind of theatre.
From the theatre of text to the theatre based on the mime
language, we can talk of the street’s theatre, where the
actors act in a opened space, the black theatre or shadow
plays, where the play needs a closed space and certain characteristics in the
atmosphere, or the musical theatres, the coffee theatre,
the marionette theatre, etc.
It’s here where the NEW TECHNOLOGIES must be
mentioned. It’s about a virtual situation. THE
DIGITAL THEATRE is the theatre of the future.
In this kind of theatre
all of the fundamentals elements are present: the audience
(intercultural), the music, the illumination, etc; in it all kind
of techniques such as mime, marionette, shadow plays,
etc, can be used. All of this in a opened space as well as in a closed
space.
The network is the stage where the physical and
the digital elements are joined. Here, the actors can interact with
another kind of actors as, for instance, marionettes or the same audience, and
they can interact being in different places and times. The audience
takes directly part in the performance.
I think that the
beginning of this new century is the beginning of a new era to organise
interactive and intercultural experiences.
In my opinion this is
the revolution in the theatre of the future. The digital era, which through internet, can do to the theatre
arrived to the most number of the audience.
This way of doing
theatre can also arrive to places where there are ill or poorer people. It,
without doubt, can improve the cultural and social level in the poorer
societies.
