Chronology 3

 

1689- Samuel Richardson was born in this year in Derbyshire and is tha son of a London joiner.

 

1707 – He was apprenticed to a printer in London.

 

1720 – He set up his own shop as a stationer and printer and became one of the leading figures in the London trade.

 

1736-1737 – Richardson published the newspaper Daily Journal.

 

1738 – Samuel Richardson published another newspaper which is called Daily Gazeteer.

 

1740-1741 – He publishes Pamela:or Virtue Rewarded.By May in the same year it reached a fourth edition and was dramatized in Italy by Goldoni,as well as in England.

 

1747-1748 – Richardson published,also regarded today as his best work,Clarissa or,the History of a Young Lady.

 

1753-1754 – He published his last novel,The History of Sir Charles Grandison.

 

1761 – Samuel Richardson died and is buried in St. Bride's Church,London.
