First Paper

Subject : Hipertextos y Literatura Inglesa
Student´s name :Emilia Carballo Horton

Title of the paper :  Research of the life of William Makepeace Thackeray

Author or topic : William Makepeace Thackeray

Abstract : This author is one of the most familiar to me of the whole list
of choice. I have also read Vanity Fair and seen an adaptation of  it on
television. I thougt it was an interesting book, with rather learned and
old fashioned  vocabulary, and watching it on television helped me to
understand it better.
Also, Thackery is very well known and I found a wide range of
information about him in Internet. This shows the importance of this author.
Here is some brief information and details about what I´m planning to
do:
1-Biography.
A detailed biography of the author. It includes aspects of his childhood, studies, family
and personal life. There are even  fragments dedicated to his family and close friends.
2- Chronology.
Aspects of his personal and professional life, and their exact dates.

3-Review by Edwin Percy of "Vanity Fair".(May 1865)
A short comment about this review. Percy remarks almost everything about
the novel, from  the publishing, illustrations and quality of the paper, to
the description of the main characters (Becky Sharp, Amelia, the Osborne
family, Sir Pitt Crawley,...) I have adapted it and translated it into Spanish.

4-Generous praise to Dickens
A speech made by Thackeray about his main rival translated into Spanish.
5- His hidden talent.
Apart from writing, Thackeray was a talented sketcher.

Auto-evaluation: I think I deserve pass with a decent mark as until about  two
months ago I didn´t even know how to use a computer and I´ve had to  make an
effort .I think I have also put a lot of interest into this subject , as I´ve
come to most of the lectures and  tried hard to make a good job out of this
piece of work.
