CHARACTERS

THESEUS

He is the king, his wife is Phaedra.

HIPPOLYTUS

He is the son of Theseus, he is very lazy.

PHAEDRA

She is the wife of Theseus, she is the stepmother of Hippolytus, and she is in love with him.

STROPHE

She is Phaedra’s daughter.

There are others characters like Priest (he is the doctor) and two men and two women.

SUMMARY

Phaedra is in love with Hippolytus but he does not want anything with her because is the wife of his father, she tell to her daughter this but her daughter tell her that she must forget.  Phaedra tries having sex with him but he is not interested although he has sex with a lot of women of his town because all the people love him although he is a lazy boy.

Phaedra kills herself but before she writes a note where she puts that Hippolytus raped her. Theseus come back and he wants to kill his son but Phaedra defends him and Theseus does not recognise her and he kills her, and after that he kills his son. Finally he regrets and he kills herself too.

SPACES

There are some spaces where the scenes happen, the spaces are a bedroom, the place of the funeral and the last it is a prison.

LANGUAGE

The author uses a colloquial language and she uses a lot of  vulgarisms.

PERSONAL OPINION

I think that the play has a very sad end because all the principal characters die, Hippolytus is bad example of a bad boy because he is very lazy and does not do useful.
