I will mainly focus this paper on the social context in which Swift is enmarked, I mean, I will try to explain the main characteristics and features that reflect Swift´s society. I will further expose the opinions expressed by him about his society, taking this information from his writings ( Gulliver´s Travels, A Tale of a Tub,…). Moreover, I will show some criticisms that I have taken up from different authors, dealing mainly with the measurement, irony and the grotesque in Gulliver´s Travels.

In addition to this, I will indicate some contrasts between the society treatment by Lewis Carroll and the treatment done by J. Swift, taking into account that both authors dealt with society in their writtings.

Finally, I will conclude this paper giving some of the results that I have extracted from it.
