Use of Language and writing techniques
Through the reading we can see that this text is some kind of a diary, where the first person narrator tells us about her life experiences such as sex, masturbating, bulimia, learning, love, etc. I think that Eisen used the direct style and intimate tone, in order to give credibility to her work and to make us feel, in some way identified with the main heroine. The language used in this story is colloquial and sometimes even rude; like for example in the fallowing phrases: (“Hey, “one of the Euro guys yelled “, “I was too fucking inhibited”, “I moved my cheek up his thigh to his balls”). In my opinion, this method is used to achieve a stronger effect on the reader and intensify the emotions expressed in the story. The way she treats such themes like sexuality or stripping for money, gives me an impression that Adrienne wanted to reveal taboos and maybe, show us the cruel reality of every-day life of many modern women.
Another very interesting technique is the way an index is presented: it has a structure of formal Curriculum vitae, with a description of education, working experience, and life expectations. This strategy was definitely used to produce an impact, because after such an “introduction” the last thing that reader expects is disclosed confessions presented in this hyper-text by Eisen Adrienne.
As for the reading and comprehension, well I didn’t seem to have problems. Of course there were some unfamiliar words, but not too many and it didn’t took me very long time to read the whole text.
