LEWIS CARROLL
A LOGICAL AND LINGUISTIC ANALYSIS IN:
ALICE´S ADVENTURES IN WONDERLAND
THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS AND WHAT ALICE FOUND THERE
ABSTRACT
We deal here with some of the most famous nonsense and games of words that come to us when reading these two books "for children". Though the worlds created by Carroll seem to be a complete chaos, we can find a logical structure just by looking at them a bit more carefully. Anyway, this logic is not "our" logic,so as the character`s use of language is quite different from ours. They both happen to have their own internal rules. We analyze here, by using logical and linguistic tools, some of the main scenes of the two books. For instance: the dialogues of the Chesire Cat and Humpty Dumpty with Alice, the tea "hour", the game of chess... Moreover, we consider some scientific and philosophical problems that appear in some chapters.
