Here go some do's and don'ts to help you kick off.
Do's

Proofread it on paper
Ask your client if you're not sure about anything
Confirm project delivery and arrival
Market your services. No one knows you're out there

Don'ts

Overpromise. Don't accept projects outside your competence
Drop deadlines without getting an O.K. from client
File first drafts. You should always run a quality assurance first
Date your client. Business and pleasure go separate ways

Born way back in a far-off, misty land the author was brought up with a penchant for languages and a disposition to travel.
