OUR VISION OF FUTURE ABOUT
THEATRE
"How will
theatre be in the future?" This is one of questions that a lot of
people ask themselves. It is something that catches our attention and at present
has more importance of what we think. I would like to give my vision of future
about theatre basing me in our society and other previous literary movements to
get a reasonable conclusion.
First, I am going to analyse some
social factors. Our society is full of something that has sense and other
things that are totally useless. The most important is that a lot of people do
not know how to distinguish what is good and productive and what is bad and
ephemeral. In this world, things come and go. They sometimes have importance
and they often are remembered and catch our attention. From my point of view,
theatre is often the performance of those things. That can marked our life and
all that we are able to imagine is performed in theatre.
Nowadays, theatre is an exit of this
hypocritical world that only worries about possessing more and more ephemeral
things that make us happy during a day. But for tomorrow, we have to search
something different. Theatre does not perform a perfect world. You do not go to
the theatre to see a perfect world. You only have to see inside of you. Every
one of us tries to create our ideal life. Theatre only wants you to see those
small things that everyday manage our present to a better future. Those small
things are really the most important, but there is something that hides the
most beautiful in life. For this reason, theatre takes care of showing that.
On the one hand, theatre has the power of
inviting to discover a hidden world that is real. But we sometimes cannot see it. On the
other hand, theatre criticises our society: our way of living, and doing
something, anything. It is a criticism to our way of thinking about something
or somebody. Theatre makes us reflect, feel happy, sad, angry, disappointed or
proud. This is its objective: to make people feel. Another of the most
important characteristics is that theatre is an excellent road to learn and be
aware of we having a lot of very different points of view about life. I think
this is important.
Now, I would like to see a small
revision about some very known literary movements to appreciate their
evolution.
Romanticism has been one of the most
important literary movements. Romantic theatre represents the man's feelings as
his fears, his happiness and unhappiness, his love and his hate. It is like if
man tries to liberate them. It is a way of escaping.
Realism appears like a way of
protesting against Romanticism. It is a sickly literature according to Realism
playwrights. Realism represents society and reality. Theatre compares two big
social statements: rich and poor people.
The theatre of the absurd emerges as
a consequence of the Second War between 1940 and 1950. It represents the
worries about life: why the man is alive, why the man dies, which we can find
after death and if God really exists.
As we have seen, theatre has
developed during a lot of years and it seems to continue developing. For this
reason, we ask ourselves: how will theatre be? What topics will it deal with?.
Having done a revision of our society and the predecessors of contemporary
theatre, I can present my theory about theatre in the future.
At first, I think theatre will not
disappear. It is a way of manifestation that talks about life. People needs to
go to see that manifestation, that representation to judge better or worse
their way of thinking and although people do not go to the theatre frequently,
theatre will never be empty. There will always be somebody to see that play. I
also think that our way of living is very related to the fact that people go to
the theatre. People hardly have free time. Time sometimes is our enemy.
Moreover, I consider that people is not motivated enough. They lack motivation,
but it can be resolved. My vision of theatre is quite optimist respect to it.
Another question about theatre is
what will be performed in the plays or what topics will deal with.
World is changing too fast and we
are not able to assimilate these changes. Therefore, it is difficult to know
them. My point of view is the following one: theatre will be totally
"futuristic". I want to say that theatre is going to undergo new
tendencies until nothing will surprise, nothing will frighten because people
will be totally used to contemplate those tendencies. Nothing to be done.
Nothing to be undergone. Scenes will be fantastic with little real details. All
the things which are performed will be exaggerated until people are aware of
their unhappiness. They will be unhappy. Then, they will search the essence of
life and will perform romantic topics again as love and death. They will
worried about man and will recover life's sense. It is like a circle. I think
that.
In conclusion, this ephemeral life
has to change. It is corrupted. I do not know when. Maybe, I cannot see that
change from the Earth, but I believe it will change. Theatre will go up to the
top of the hill. It will lose its essence and tries to get it again inside the
man.
