INTRODUCTION

INTRODUCTION

This hypertext is not as others with some pictures or sounds, it only has text, but this is not a problem because the lack of it doesn´t make it boring.

When you click on the link of the hypertext you see the title of the hypertext and five more titles. This fives titles correspond to the chapters of the text. Each chapter starts with the name of the main character and then develops his story. The whole hypertext is about a story of some people related among them.

You can read the texts in different ways. One of them is to click in each title and read the different stories and at the end think about the five stories and collect all the information given. Another way is to click on one title and read the text and after that click on the different links that there are on the text which take you trough all the texts.

So the structure of the text is: five parallel texts connected between them with links.

Now there is a resume of the text, chapter by chapter:

Silam Paley, a successful entrepreneur who lived in Cincinnati decided to buy an old hospital in Seoul, Korea and converted it into a factory for the production of board games to be sold in the United States.

Darren Jackobson, a friend of Silam invited him to have dinner at his house to introduce him to Ward Callahan, an important businessman. Later in this month Ward close a small factory in Michigan and outsource the work to the Korean plant, paying workers one tenth the wages.

During the first month everything was correct but then, workers demanded to increase their wages. So Silam increased security measures at the plant to control the workers, but despite this control, employees manage to make fun of their superiors to produce a batch of thousands and thousands of games without the letter "E". This affects a lot Silam which falls into a strange disease. That motivates an illness and fatigue continued lack of memory in Silam. Thus, he decides to go to the doctor, he did not forget to write, and this is what he wrote: "tomorrow - gat appointmant doctor."

- Chicken Soup for your Rainforest-Bulldozing Ass.

Young-li Kim is a very successful Korean businessman who has just bought a rainforest in the south of the island of New Zealand. His business worked very well, but Young-Li thought that his company needed to become computerized. So he decided to oblige his son, Young-Li Jr., to study math and science. Thanks to their marks was accepted at the University of Cincinnati as a computer programmer.

There, he was working and studying at the same time. But despite how much he studied, Young-Li did not pass his exams, and this fact concerned him very much. Young-Li did not attend their English classes and he did not know anything in that language. He decided to study a lot of one subject to pass de exam, because with such notes would not continue at the university and would have to return home having failed. When he has the exam, he could remember anything.

After this failure wandered through the streets, in that moment he remembered everything and he tried to fill a test that did not exist, he also heard himself shouting cerocerocero....
Some hours later, police arrested him in a luxurious area. When he tried to explain to the police who he was, he only could say "zero".

Darren Jakobsen (The friend of Silam) was having a very good year; also he has installed a Jacuzzi in his home, in a rich area of Cincinnati, and had organized a trip to go to a New Zealand rainforest with his wife (maybe the rainforest that had bought Young –Li Kim). He made a living through the rental of his properties.

The previous year had been too permissive with tenants, so for the new year decided to be a little harder. So he decides to evict the Washington, an African-American woman and her two children, because they were late in their payments.

To celebrate this His good year, he invited some friends to dinner at his house. They were Silam Paley, Robert Sullivan and Ward Callahan and his son. After dinner they drank some martinis in the Jacuzzi.

Due to Darren and his wife drank more than the account they fell asleep. About midnight there was a short circuit in the Jacuzzi, the house burned down and both died.

Robert Sullivan heard of the death of his neighbour, Darren Jakobsen, arriving at work. He feel very shocked and began to recall the previous day, when he had been at Darren´s house having dinner. He highlighted the fact that Silam did not attend the dinner (due to his illness) and, returning home, he called the police when he saw an Asian man wandering and doing strange things in his neighbourhood.

That same morning, Robert had an appointment with Jerry Armantrout, who needed a transplant. But Robert had to explain that their HMO insurance did not cover this. After hearing this Mr Armantrout began to cry saying that how a large corporation such as HMO could have a heart so small.

After this conversation cancelled his only event, a woman who claimed to have been poisoned at work, and went to walk. During the ride realized about his six years daughter and his alcoholic wife, and decided to go to pick up his daughter to the care centre. But suddenly he recalled that the babysitter of her daughter was the wife of Armantrout, so he felt very guilty. He went into a bar for a beer and a plate of liver and onions. About 5 pm Robert had died poisoned.

Mrs. Armantrout received the news and telephoned the mother of the girl, but she was too drunk to understand anything. At this moment again, she realized that she was the closest relative that she had.

Victoria Washington (The African-American woman who Darren Jackobson evicted) came into the lab where she worked. It was his first visit in three weeks, since he had been sick. During this time he was enjoying the company of her two children (One of them was the roommate of young-Li Jr. at the University o Cincinnati). She was still sick but he did not want to lose her job in Protect and Gamble in Cincinnati, which was to oversee the treatment of animals used for testing.

While she was in the elevator, he saw in a newspaper that a raccoon had escaped and it was still at the building. She went to great her supervisor (Darren´s wife) but she was so busy, so she went to talk to the director of risk, because she believed that her illness was due to continuous contact with chemical products of the lab. The compensation did not come, and as a result, his landlord had threatened to evict her.

The Risk Manager of the lab (Ward Callahan Jr.) assured him that the checks would arrive, that the delay was due to a misplaced paperwork. Then Victoria asked him if he could phone her landlord Darren to assure him that the checks would arrive, Ward laughed and the raccoon leapt from a shelf of bowling trophies above his head and chewed his eyes out in a geyser of blood and killed him.

As you can see reading this resume there is a connection between all the characters of the stories.
