The
name of this chapter is “men commune secretly with the trees”. Here, she
try to show the shape of Pandanus
genus( tree of New Guinea) , to
situate it geographically and to compare it with the female body. There is a
clear pejorative use of the word “woman” because of the issue of Jamison and
the rite: “Women can cultivate sweet potatoes so well
because they have no 'stick'.
They cannot climb trees because they have a cunt, and a big arse”.
There
are 3 colourful illustrations in which we can see the tree, its roots an its
fruit. To remember the fruit, Sonya Rapoport says that it resembles a
pinneaple, so the images in this first page help us to understand the process
that later will be explained.
