Harold Pinter, The dumb waiter. Copy from “reprografia” at the University. First presented on 21 January on Hampstead.

Dramatis personae

Ben   Young to mature man. He is the senior of the two characters and more stern

          than the other.

Guss Young to mature man. He is a bit loony. He is always making questions to

         Ben.

Plot

Two professional killers are waiting for their present victim in a basement room.

Suddenly they discover that there is a dumb waiter in their bedroom that keeps sending them kitchen orders which, of course, they can not accomplish because they are not in the kitchen of any restaurant, in fact they do not even have gas in the stove.

Space

It all happens inside of a basement room. This gives a bit claustrophobic environment. Also it helps to denote that they come from a low social class.

Time

Linear time. We do not know the time of the day that we are at. Since they are on a basement room, it does not seem to matter weather there is light or dark outside.

Literary resources

Prose, colloquial language

Other aspects

● Should not be a too expensive or too difficult to realize production.

Personal opinion

It was pretty easy to read. However at first I could not make much sense of it. Finally I have understood that the dumb waiter represents the link between the people of the upper class and the low class. Funny way to symbolize!
