Student's name: Irene Francés Martí
Title of the paper: The study of language by Transformational-generative grammar : Noam Chomsky the founder of this linguistic theory.
Author or topic: Transformational-generative grammar (Chomsky, Noam ).
Abstract or summary of the research in not more than 100 to max.150 words:
In this paper, I´m going to talk about Transformational-generative grammar, which attemps to define rules that can generate the grammatical sentences possible in a language. The objective I have proposed myself is to compare Transformational-generative grammar to other linguistic theories. On the other hand, I´m going to talk about the american linguist Noam Chomsky (1928-) as an example of Transformational-generative grammar´s linguists, and I also want to establish a contrast between Chomsky (that defends innate structures as the basis for speech ) and Saussure or others (that defend learning as the basis for speech). I will talk about Chomsky because he has been considered the founder of Transformational-generative grammar and he revolutionized the study of language. He has written numerous linguistics works, e.g., The Sound Pattern of English (1968; with Morris Halle), Reflections on Language (1975).
