First paper: "On Death"

Topic : Analysis of the poem

Author of the poem: Percy Bysshe Shelley

Abstract : In this poem, Shelly reminds how ephemeral is life, which creates us a state of disappointment on facing the unavoidable, the death. He also describes a hopeless sensation of uncertainty because we never get to understand the mysteries of life. Finally he shows some kind of despise to those who claim to understand life and death, referring clearly to Religion. We are going to analyse which elements lead us to these conclusions and also which poetic elements uses Shelley to give intensity to his ideas of death.

Second paper: Two Ways of Appreciating Female Beauty

Topic : Comparative analysis of the poems "She Walks in Beauty" and "A Pretty Woman"

Author of the poems : Lord Byron and Robert Browning

Abstract : Two literary periods will necessarily have different visions of Beauty. A beautiful woman can have an spiritual, almost metaphysical aura or a more 'down-to-earth' beauty, depending on who describes her. Also the way to appreciate that beauty can change. Beauty can inspire feelings of love and emotion to some kind of poets, while others will appreciate beauty just in terms of momentary liking, without emotional implication. So our task is to analyse which elements are characteristic of Romanticism and which of Victorianism, as well as try to find some links between both poems and poets.

Auto-evaluation: I have fulfilled all your requirements to pass the subject (attendance to classes, papers, quizz, webpage and exposition), always trying to do my best and following your guidelines; but taking into consideration that I made a few mistakes in the quizz and in the papers, I would probably deserve a Notable.
