Argument

Uncle Roger is structured in 3 files. The narrator is Jenny Clark, a girld who started working as a live-in babysiter for a rich family, the Broadthrow's.

In File1, Jenny starts talking about a party in Broadthrow's house. During the party, we met most of the characters of the novel. Tom and Louise Boradthrow, who have two children in comun, Caroline, the little one, who Jennt takes care of, and Mark, who is 16. There also appear Jack and Jane, a couple who comes from Massachusetts. Tom joined Jack to manage BroadthrowMicro. Jenny has an uncle called Roger Clark, or as she call him, Uncle Roger. He is vice president of a brokerage firm, Clark and Clark.He's a semiconductor industry analyist. The other Clark in Clark & Clark is Grandy, the granfather of Jenny. At the party, Uncle Roger pretend that Jenny act as she don't know him. There were also Dorrie, who is the rigt hand of Jack at BroadthrowMicro, and Rose, who is Jack's secretary. Rose tries to tie with Jack.Then we have Jeff Gallagher. Jenny falls in love with Jeff. He told Jenny that he had a small company, but they weren't doing very well. He said he had designed a custom chip which he thought was "pretty hot", but they didn't have the money to produce it. He had tried to get money, but times weren't very good right now.  He said Tom Broadthrow's venture capital company had been interested,  but Tom had decided that the chip wouldn't be practical to produce. We met all of tat characters during the party, which was full of men in tan suits, maybe workrs of BroadtrhowMicro.
Apart of the party, Jenny also talks about her dreams. Most of them are related to Jeff. She have many erotic dreams with him, for example, she was with Jeff in her bed, or they were at a party on a cruise ship. In an other dream, they were in a shallow pool palaying with a beach ball, then she imagine them lying on the sand beside the water on a small island in Trinnywind Harbor. In an other dream, she was on a pullman train with Jeff. She has also dreams not related with Jeff. She dreamed she lived with Louise on a long boat-like dock in the harbor. The place was called Trinnywind or Tinnywild or something like that, then she went back to the long boat in Trinnywind harbor. She went below. Louise was there with a bag full of tacos. The last dream she has in File1 is that she was in Venice, Italy. She got a letter from Tom saying he was passing through Venice and he wanted to see her.



 File2 starts with the celebration of Tom's birthday in a restaurant in an Hotel. Uncle Roger was still pretending that he didn't know me. Jenny was wrtiting in her notebook about a trip she took last year with David. They wrer driving to a place up North where David kept his boat. During the travell, Jenny took David's wallet to see how much monry the have and she found a photo of Linda. Jenny tore the picture into little pieces and put it back in the pocket of his wallet. Sally, David's cat, jumped out the car and started runing down the cliff. Jenny went after the cat and when she finally could catch the cat, Salle was holding a fish in her mouth. Finally, they were at the home of David's parents, which was empty and they make love there. When their parents arrive they were still at home.
In her day off, Jenny met Jeff at the caffe. He want to talk with her becouse he have problems with his bussines with Broadthrow. Then, Jeff invited her to visit his company. Jeff had to atend an important problem and Jenny keep waiting there. When Jeff finished they started kissing again and again while the telephone was ringing.
At the restaurant, Uncle Roger was waiting for Jenny at girls bathroom to talk with her. He told her that Jenny's father had asked him to watch over her. He also want to talk with her about Jeff. Uncle Roger showed to Jenny a little chip. It was the chip Jeff had designed, but Tom Broadthrow had stole to him. He said that Tom was hunged up on the process and he had got a million of them coming off the line in Haiti. Jenny confesed to her uncle that she has fall in love with Jeff. Uncle Roger tried to persuade her to go with him to San Francisco and start working there. He also talked about a man who were very interested in knowing her. Jenny refused the invitation. Uncle Roger tried to justify himself saying that Broadthrow stole Gallagher's design, he merely helped himself to some things he found in Broadthrow's study the night of that party in Woodside.
David went to Woodside to pick up Jenny and go to the beach with her. He asked her to to go back East with him.



In File3 Jenny is working in a office, with a computer. In the same room there were the Supervisor. Here she also have dreams. In one of them, she was typing on the keyboard showed up on a large screen and five men in tan suit were watching what she types. She writted wrong the name of a book.
Jenny is all the time explaining how the offices are, the problems she has with some computers, talking about the people who works with her and so on.
Then she dream she was with Jeff again., they were at the top of a hill covered with tall grass. Then, she woke up curled up in Jeff's arms while he was still sleeping. They were in the ruins of an old fort overlooking San Francisco Bay, were an erotic scene between them took place.
Uncle Roger, Jeff and Jenny were at the same room. Roger told Jeff that Tom had stolen his chip. When Jeff heard that, he went stright to Tom's house and start a fight with him, throwing bottles between them. Loise called the police.
Uncle Roger meka a present to Jenny, a trip ticket to Boston, where they flied together. Reger was still insisting at Jenny to go with him to San Francisco, and telling her about Bruce, the guy he wants for Jenny.
Jenny expainin another erotic scene with Jeff.
The story finishes at the airport, where Jenny's mother were waiting for her.
