Characters
Here I will talk briefly about the characters of the hypertext
explaining a bit the relations between them, they paper in the novel
and some descriptions of them.
Fisrts of all, we have the protagonist, Jenny Clark. Jenny is a young
girl, which age is not especified, who works for the Broadthrow's
family as a babysiter of their younger daugther, Caroline. Jenny is the
narrator of the novel. She had a boyfriend called David. It does not
say he was her boyfriend but we can deduce it by the context. It seems
they had splited up reciently. David has a small calico cat called
Sally.
Broadthorw's family is composed by Tom Broadthrow, who is the head of
the family. He is a bussines man, the president of
BroadthrowMicro. He has a slight build, sandy hair and a pleasant
smile. He is married with Louise. Louise is a very good looking woman,
and seem quite an ellegant and styleish person. She has a perfectly
waved blond hair, deep glance from her brown eyes like an unexpected
thaw in early spring exposing bare but promising earth. Tom and Louise
have two children, Caroline and Mark. Caroline, the little one, owns a
female cat called Puffy, who every time she can, lickes the food at the
party. Mark, the brother of Caroline, is sixteen. Janny does not
tell much more about him. Broadthrow's are a very rich fammily, they
own three houses, one in Woodside, half an hours commute to
BroadthrowMicro; one in Massachusetts, near Broadthrow headquarters;
and "The Cottage" in New Hampshire, near BroadVentures. They also have
two Mercedes. The predecessor of Jenny was called Leslie, but she went
unexpectedly to Mexico with the lifeguard at the lake.
Jenny also talks about his family. The most important character of his
family is Roger Clark, but she call him Uncle Roger becouse is the
brother of his father. He is short and plump. Is vicepresident of
a brockerage firm, Clark & Clark. He’s a semiconductor
industry analyist. Is married with Sally, the aunt of Jenny, but she
does not say much about her. Grandy is the granfather of Jenny, and he
is the other Clark of Clark & Clark. He speaks Latin fluently and
remember things about Greek and Persian wars. Jenny also mention his
brother, but he only appeared when she is talking about a past dream.
Related to the Broadthrow's bussines, we have Jack and Jane. Tom joined
Jack to manage BroadthrowMicro. Jack is from texas and he looks like
Elvis Presley might had looked if he had played a lot of football and
worn Brooks Brothers shirts. He also has a new home in Sunnyvale. Jane
is his wife. It does not say they are married but we can deduce it. She
is from Massachusetts, has long brown hair, brown eyes, round glasses,
and a calm, pleasant face. She met Jack while she was working in a lab
on route 128 in boston and they fell in love. Jenny also talk about
Mark's english teacher, Mrs Gorgel. he is blond with green eyes, short
straked hair in an elfin cut, wearing a gold skirt with turquoise
images of dancers in a style of the fifties and shiny pink plastic
shoes. Other important characters of the enviroment of BroadthrowMicro
are Dorrie and Rose. Dorrie is Jack's rigth hand at BroadthrowMicro. She
was tall, at least 6 feet, squeezed into tight jeans and a yellow
fringed cowboy shirt with pearl buttons. Rose is Jack's secretary.
Dorrie thinks that Rose is a bitch, and tries to have something with
Jack. It seems like this becouse Rose is always looking at Jack eyes
and talking to him. The last person mentioned with relation to
BroadthrowMicro is
Mr Draper, Tom's lawyer.
Then we have Jeff Gallagher. Jenny have fall in love with Jeff, or at
least, she is always dreaming with him. All the dreams she have with
Jeff are a bit "erotic". Jeff is a bussinesman, but he is not very
good. He designed a chip, but Tom stole his chip and his project. He is
about 6’,2”, brown hair, boyish smile, wearing a sort of
glow about his head. He had stray gray hairs in his thick brown hair
and big sloping shoulders and brown eyes. He had been born in San
Jose, where his father owned a gas station, and had lived there
all his life, Jane thinks he is a nice, solid guy.
