In this paper, we’re going to compare two authors from theatre, Samuel Beckett and Arnold Wesker, and I’m going to talk about their chronology and how the age of their appearence has influenced in their career in some way.

On one hand, we have the first play by Samuel Beckett which is from the beginning of the thirties. His first play was "Le Kid", presented by the Peacock Theatre by the Dublin University Modern Language Society and was written in French. In this epoque, the theatre plays were not that famous around the poblation, and only a few of them can buy the book or watch the play, because of that, they were not so popular in that moment of history, but he hasn’t desisted to continue writing (Anne Casella http://bingweb.binghamton.edu/~ccarpen/Beckett.htm). In the other hand, Arnold Wesker starts to make plays at the end of fifties. His first written play was "Chicken Soup with Barley", first performed at The Belgrade Theatre, Coventry in 7 July 1958 for one week. But, in this epoque, the theatre was a little more inserted in public and he has enjoyed more success than Samuel Beckett (http://www.arnoldwesker.com Unknown Author - Section Chronology).

But, in this period, the two were good writers and they’ve enjoyed of a certain fame in the country.

Taking a deep look into their chronology, we can see that the kind of plays they’re writing, changed with the passing of time. In first place, we have theatre plays like "Le Kid", "Chicken Soup with Barley"… and forwards, the authors have written essays, in the case of Arnold Wesker, in 1973 he wrote "Fears of Fragmentation" and Samuel Beckett wrote "Distinctions" in 1985 (Anne Casella http://bingweb.binghamton.edu/~ccarpen/Beckett.htm -

This, can be a sign of evolution for part of this two authors, who want to specialize themselves in only one kind of litherature, and offer to the public more books of varied literary genres from them. This is usual to don’t focus in only one genre, although the theatre were their most famous plays in their career, but in this case, the authors want to arrive to more public, and with pass by of time, the literary genres that was written by the authors were a very lot of them with less or more success, but were important to their literary career.

Finally, in the last days of the life of Samuel Beckett, he returned to the theatre genre and wrote his unique play with political implications called "Catastrophe", presented in New York in 1983, six years later, he died.

And Arnold Wesker, in 2001 and 2002, had written two adaptations of novels to made from they a theatre play later at that date. In that way, we can see that in actuality or in the last days of Beckett, they’ve returned to their origins with the theatre genre (http://www.arnoldwesker.com Unknown Author - Section Chronology).
