Author or topic : Articles from different authors regarding the language and pragmatic aspects of Shakespeare’s history plays.

Abstract : Shakespeare is known to be an unconventional writer who did not follow the status quo of his contemporary writers. His language and style showed differences from other writers at the time and personal characteristics difficult to follow. The plays I have decided to focus my paper on are the history plays, more specifically those included in the Henriad as the way Shakespeare uses language to represent history, the linguistic strategies used in these plays to present the events and the meaning that his words convey to describe the characters in his plays show that many of the messages are made clear from the impact his words made in the audience and readers. The behaviour of the rulers may be inferred from the words they utter and the use of rhetorical devices such as metaphors, hyperboles or phonetic games affect the development of the stories and discover the social status of the characters described.
