Academic Shakespeare Company (ASC)

This is another example of a serious theater company staging Shakespeare plays in Japanese, and with a decent presentation of the company and the program on the internet.

The Academic Shakespeare Company was founded in 1996, and has the aim of representing all Shakespeare 37 plays. Most of the representations are staged on The Globe Tokyo, which is a replica of the original theater in Stratford. Apart from the performances, the company also has a research team and projects with educational purposes, which justify the term gacademich in the name of the company.

As for the structure of the web, the main page is just a bulleting board with the latest news about the company. In order to view the rest of the sections, one must click on the unfolding menu box on the left top of the page, and choose the second option which stands for gsite maph. This will take us to a page with a left menu with links to the profile of the company, a record for the already staged plays, announcements for future representations, a list of links to other related websites, a web log, and even a corner for aspiring actors to submit applications.

The website is easy to access and surf through, and has all the elements we should expect from a serious theater company placing itself on the internet.
