The Shakespeare Company for Children

After entering through the main page by clicking on the main picture, we access the real main page. This site is also an internet presentation of the existence of another company dedicated to the representation of Shakespeare plays in Japanese language, but as the name indicates, that are adapted and rewritten for young children to understand and enjoy it. The company is rather famous in Japan so the creators of the website did not seem to think it was necessary to make a great effort in building up the page or providing it with information.

The main characters of the pages seem to be the photographer of the plays, Ishikawa, and the stage director Yamazaki. However, in spite of the 14 links found on the main page, none of them provide us with information about the company itself, when in was created, who created it and with what purpose. The person who accidentally accesses this website without previously knowing the company will leave without really knowing what really defines this organization. There are photographs of previous spectacles and a rehearsal diary by Yamazaki, but again, we still do not find any relevant information about the company or details about previous of future spectacles.

It is a pity that such a great company does not have website that does more justice to it. Nevertheless, it is worth mentioning that the LINKS section link offers access to some important pages about other theater companies staging Shakespeare in Japan like the ones we commented upon in the former sections.

Within this series of links there is one takes us to the website of Canon Project, which also seems to be part of the program of “Shakespeare for Children”, and that actually has all the missing links that we expected in the original main homepage. Here, apart from the section of links to other websites, news and future representations, we finally have a profile section that explains that it was a company founded in 1995 by Kiyosuke Yamazaki, and that its main objective has been to stage Shakespeare plays in a way adults and children can enjoy them.
