Dramatis personae
_Papa Ubu: He
is the main character of the play.
He is a ambitius and disgusting character. He betrays Monomonarca and kill him
to get the power, and when he get it, he becomes in a tyrant that wants to get
the control of the world and he doesn’t care about the people, he doesn’t mind
to kill people to get it. He is a
funny critique of the
tyrants
who
wants the power like Bush, Franco, Hitler, etc.
_Mama Ubu:
She is the wife of Ubu. She manipulates him to get that he kills Mandamas. She
has a lover, called Memmon, with him she lies her husband. When Ubu gets the
power, she tries to kill her husband with Memmon and other people.
There
are others secondary character, for example the soldiers, the conscience,
people, all of them plays by the same actors.
Space
The
set is very simple, almost a naked stage. There is just some elements, very few,
that dress the scenary. There are different scenes that happens in differents
places, and the audience have to suppose where the actors are, because the
setting is very poor.
Lights
In
this play, they play very much with the lights. The play is very dark, it is
lighted just where the actors are. It appears also a light with the effect of a
helicopter.
The
lights are very good divided. There are lights that light the bottom of the stage
and others that light the front part.
A very important thing in this play is that there is a moment when the lights that light the audience are switched on and the actors can see the audience to involve them. The last scene is the light to the gesture of the hand of Ubu.
Clothes
The clothes in this play are no normal
clothes. They are very cheap clothes, very poor. There are clothes very funny
for example in the fight between Ubu and Memmon, when this one appears in tanga,
or the clothes of the Ubu’s conscience who appears with a nappy and swimming
glasses.
Atrezzo
The
atrezzo here is very peculiar. The objects are no real things. For example there
is a big red ring that have a lot of use. It is used as a trapdoor where Ubu
sent the people that he kills, he throws them in, and it’s also used as urinal
and other duties. At the end, all the characters disappears into it. Also
appears a big chair where Ubu is sit down when he gets the
power.
Theatre
atmosphere
The
play causes in the audience laughs, because it’s a comedy. However there are
moments when it is supposed that the aundience have to laugh that the audience
don’t laugh.
There
is a moment when suddenly an actor shoots and this causes in the audience a
fright .
Personal
opinion
This
play is a big criticism of the tyranny and authoritarism, in a way sarcastic and
ridiculous. I like the kind of plays that criticize something. This one, I think
it’s not a bad play, is ok, but I don’t like completly.
I
find the play a little bit monotonous, and it makes that the play is boring.
In
general the actors look for the easy joke, and it is usually very evident, so it
isn’t funny. However there are some jokes funny enough, but not
many.
There
are some actors that I don’t like very much, and the character Ubu I don’t like
him anything, it is repulsive for me.
