Some
information
Phaedra’s
love is a play of Sarah Kane. The play was showed for the first time in ate
Theatre London in 15th May 1996. it was direct by Sarah
Kane.
Phaedra
is the mother of Strophe. She is a sweety character. The daughter is always
defending her mother and she acts with whichever attack against her mother.
Other
character is Theseus who is the Phaedra’s husband. He has a son called
Hippolytus, who is the stepson of Phaedra and the stepbrother of Strophe.
Theseus reigns his territory, and with the union of his wife, makes her to reign
too. Hippolyytus in spite of his physical and psiquics complexes keeps his sex
relations in a good level.
It
is the story of the feelings which are inside of a family
Phaedra
admits to her daughter Strophe that she is in love of her stepson, Hippolytus.
Phaedra tells him that she loves him but he refuses her. Strophe gets furious
and hates her stepborther, overcoat when he says to her that he has told her
mother what she has done with her stepfather. Then, Phaedra kills herself and
write in a note that Hippolytus had
violated her and killed. Hippolytus is killed and Theseus cuts the throat of his
stepdaughter and he says he never liked her. Afterthat the father kills
himself.
The play happens in its mojority in the palace, but there are also scene in the prision, in the street, etc. So, the spaces are opened and closed.
Time
The
time of the play is the present: the play is divided in eight scenes. We don’t
know how long the play is, because it is not specificated.
This
play has a correct temporal coherence, there are no temporal
breaks.
The play is written in prose. The language used in this play is a standar, colloquial language, with abundance in vulgarism like shit, fuck, idiot, wich are repeated many times in the play. There are also abundance of short sentences.
Personal
opinion
I
like this play, it is very easy to understand, so it’s pleasant to read it. I
think that this play is a litle bit hard, for example, when the priest makes
oral sex with Hippolytus.
The
play collects lots of aspects which gets to make it an interesting play, for
example the bold treatment of the characters, who are well treated and they are
verosimils.
Or
the where the play is placed, apparently is in a old casstle, but the plays is
placed in the present
