Some
information:
The play of Edward Bon, Saved, was written in London in the sixites. It was
directed by William Gaskill.
It
is a play made up by one act and thirteen scenes. But the first time the play
was showed, some of the scenes were censored, for example the which one where
the baby of Pam and Fred
dies.
Dramatis
personae
The
characters are the next ones:
·
Pam: she is a girl who is
twenty-three years old. She falls in love of Fred and accept all things he does, even she declines to
blame him of the death of their baby..
she lives at his parents home, where also lives Len
·
Len: he is a boy who is twenty-one years old. He’s tall, slim and has blue eyes.
He doesn’t mind all things people can tell him. He loves Pam and he doesn’t mind
the loving relation that she has.
·
Mary: she is the mother of Pam and she is fifty-three years old. First, she
don’t like Len for his daughter but
at the end she gets used to him.
Finally, she likes and accepts
him.
·
Fred: he is a rebellious young. He
is the same age as Len, twenty-one. He is the father of the baby, but he doesn’t
want to act as his father. He is not a good person. Finally, he kills his
baby.
The
play deal with a group of youngs
who live in a marginal quarter. Their economic problems invade them, because they don’t work,
their education is not so good. They are related, Lend loves Pam, but she is in
love with Fred and makes the love with him and he is pregnant. Lend looks after
the baby, because Fred is an irresponsible. One day Fred take the baby and he
kills, and after he goes to the jail. When he is out, Pam keeps Loving him, and
in the end all of them live together in the same house
The
story is placed in London, it occurs in differents places: pam’s house, benches,
in a cafe, in a jail. The space usually is closed and
urban.
The time of the play is the present. The play happens in some months, because Pam is pregnant and have the baby.
The
play has a cronologycal sucesion
The
language of this play is very simple, characteristic of the young speech. There
are a lot of contractions, and stranges wordforms: wass
yer name?, d´narf, ain´, ´ere´s, oo´s...
This is a litlle bit difficult to understand.
This
is the play that I have been more impacted. I think there are thing very hard in
the play, for example, when the y kill the baby. This scene has impacted me, I
thing it is a little bit hard.
I
think that Bond looks for the polemy with this play, by means of his characters,
to make us think, because thing like that, babies killed are happening
nowadays.
