Title of the first paper: “Spiritual and Physical Beauty”
Second Paper: “Religion against nature and materialism”
Authors: Gordon George, Lord Byron “She walks in beauty”.
William Blake “The Garden of Love”- Gerard Manley Hopkins “God’s Grandeur”.
Abstract :
In this first paper about the poem written by George Gordon, Lord Byron “She walks in Beauty”, we will analyze the poem paying attention to the way the poet describes a beautiful girl, his cousin, after a life full of polemic affairs.
Abstract: (Second Paper)
Two poems, William Blake’s Garden of Love” and Gerard Manley Hopkins’s “God’s Grandeur”, both dealing with religious controversy in two periods and societies, Romantics and Victorians, where people wanted to avoid the role played by God through the help of nature and scientific knowledge respectively. We will analyze the poem and comment on the reasons Blake has got to criticise the Church and Hopkins to defend the figure of God. Finally, we will give our personal opinion as regards the relation between the fall of religious faith and the increase of materialism.
Auto-evaluation:
As far as I am concerned, I have attended all classes, I have done both papers
and I could pass both tests, so I would like to deserve a 6, among other reasons
because we still have to do the presentation of the web page, and I think this
would be an appropriate mark for the work done up to date.
