- Title of the paper: "An anti-rational movement: Surrealism"
- Author or topic: Surrealism
- Abstract or summary:
The purpose of my paper is to talk about Surrealism,
an anti-rational movement of imaginative liberation in European art and
literature in the 1920s and 1930s. This movement seeks to break down the
boundaries between rationality and irrationality and also attempts to become
an international revolutionary movement.
I will talk about the Manifestos of Surrealism established
by André Breton. The first was in 1924,the second in 1930 and finally,
the third in 1942.
Another important point that I will discuss is the
influence of Surrealism in literature and its survival in many forms of
post-war experimental art.(From the theatre of the absurd to the songs
of Bob Dylan).
I will also mention the infiltration and the incorporation
of Surrealism in English poetry and use "The Waste Land" as an example.
Texts and opinions about this movement will help
me to compare different points of view and lead me to my final conclussions.
