FIRST PAPER
Student's name: Laura Palomares Sánchez.
Title of the paper:"Island, the antidote to Brave New World."
Author or topic:Aldous Leonard Huxley.
Abstract or summary of the research in not more than 100 to max.150 word: First of all I want to talk about Huxley's life and his influence on literature.
He was born in 1894 and his education and
heritage influenced his work. For example, his mother's death gave him
the ability to think about all the problems that surronded him.
On the other hand, I want to study his work,
"Brave New World", written in 1931. It describes a bad Utopia that
has been compared with George Orwell's "1984", a novel which describes
a horrible world of the future.
In 1946, Huxley wrote a "Preface to Brave New World" and "The Perennial Philosophy", an anthology of texts with comments about a wise life in a wise society. An other work is "Brave New World Revisited", a collection of essays on ideas and real-life problems. "Doors of Perception" (1954), "Heaven and Hell", are both books based on his experiences consuming drugs under supervision. "Island" (1962) is a novel and an antidote to "Brave New World" because "Island" is a good Utopia.
My purpose is to research Huxley's life and
how he has influenced other authors, his works, specially "Brave New World"
and "Island".
