First Paper
“A Poison Tree”, Social and religious hypocrisy as an unstoppable plague
Abstract: William Blake’s “A Poison Tree” shows us the danger of repressing our feelings, and how important is for human beings to be sincere in order to stop our wrath from growing until it is too late. The key to maintain and improve our relationships is to be honest not just with our friends, but with our enemies too. We must avoid arriving to the point where we only see vengeance as a solution. Blake’s poem also makes us think about the basis of Christianity, showing us how contradictory Christian principles can be.
Author or topic : Blake, William
Second Paper
Romanticism and Victorian era seen through Keats' and Tennyson's attitudes towards death
Abstract: This paper is intended to show a clear image of what kind of attitude could a Romantic poet like Keats and a Victorian one like Tennyson have when facing their imminent death. Both poet's ideas will help us to better understand the social and religious situation during their lives, and how these were decisive in the position both poets adopted. We will deal with the role that the scientific progress played in people's faith as well as death awareness and its impact in human beings.
Author or topic : Keats, John. Tennyson, Alfred.
Overall
Auto-evaluation:
Although I found it a bit difficult at first to come up with ideas for the papers, I have finally enjoyed the experience of working with such interesting themes and poets. I am satisfied with the work I have done and given the time and effort I have devoted to it, I think I deserve a 6.5/10 mark.
