Welcome!

TO IMMA'S HOMEPAGE

This page has been designed for the subject English Narrative II, whose lecturer is Prof. Dr. Vicente Forés.

In this page I deal with the English writer George Orwell, who is one of the most prolific political writers of this century. He published almost a dozen novels and numerous essays and other articles. He was christened Eric Arthur Blair, but he wrote under the name of George Orwell from 1933 onward.

Orwell's most popular books are his political satires, Animal Farm (1945) and 1984 (1949). The latter, in which this paper is going to be focused is a grim fantasy of life in a future totalitarian state. Winston Smith, the main character, looks for a better life, but he is easily crushed by the dreaded Big Brother and his Thought Police. 1984, like Animal Farm, is a warning about the possibility of a night-marish totalitarian future.

This novel, from a master of literature, has captured a true image of the anti-utopia. Imagine a boot stepping on a human face for the rest of eternity. This is the chilling horror Orwell brings to us in his prophetical epic 1984. A world in which you are forced to love BIG BROTHER. Where the truth is manageable and alterable on a moments notice. Where the only crime is your thoughts, and even the space between your ears can betray you. One Country, One Party, One Mind.
