Conclusion

‘Under the Ashes’ is a mystery story, and we can find in it many features if this type of narrative. The house is old and inhabited, and the action takes place in a stormy night with thunders and lightings. We can also suppose the presence of some kind of ghost or apparition. It can be Mrs. Kaplin, the former owner of the house. But, what makes this story special is that all what happens inside the house seems to be related with fire. There is something evil, which becomes manifest through an intense heat in many occasions. The fire seems to have been present in the past of the house and in the future of the main characters. This is what surprises me most of the story and what makes it so interesting.

On the other hand, the text is not concluded in some parts. The last time the author added something to it was in 1998. So I hope he will complete the story soon, and the whole text will maintain the same interest of the parts already finished.
