SIX SEXS SCENES
INTRODUCTION-space in each
chapter
For
start whit the analysis of the space in this hypertext,I will show you which order I have followed and the
notes that I have done,in order to make easier this
task.
This is
my first reading:
SOCIAL FUNCTIONS
This chapter has been my first one. In this one the main space is very
clear: a “cocktail party”. The protagonist doesn’t know anybody, so she
decides to go to the bathroom, that is the second place. After
some minutes there, she decides to return to the party, so the
place is the cocktail party, again. Concretly, she is
at Andy’s side.
One interesting thing of this
hypertext is that the main character is always imagining and thinking things
she would like to do, so, in my opinion this thoughts and imaginations must
have a space, too. For instance, in this chapter ,the
protagonist imagines herself making love with other people, and may be, the
place could be a bedroom.
BORED
My second chapter. Here the protagonist is remembering several experiences, nothing is
happening in a specific place. She remembers what she used to do at class and
what she and his
brother
do at home.
THE READING
In this chapter,
she is listening to a guy reading a poem at the microphone, but in any
moment is said where they are, but it must be a place similar to a room,
bar…
After the reading,
they speak a bit, then decided to drive towards his house to have intimate relations ,so one place would be the car and another,
his apartment.
Finally, the last
place would be the car again.
DOLL
Again, she
remembers her experiences in this case, her tenth birthday, when her parents
bought her a doll house. Here there isn’t any reference to space
,
so the reader can imagine
the place, for instance, I have imagined that they were at home. It
could be a possible space.
SUNDAY AFTERNOON
The main character tells what
happens that on Sunday, and here the aspect of space is very clear, it is her
parent’s house: she runs through the library and living room, den and
dining
room.
Her mum is in the
kitchen at the same moment, and his brother is in the third floor, so
we can imagine that the house where the majority of actions are developed is
a big house of 3 floors. She also runs through the
breakfast and laundry room, she goes upstairs to avoid his father ,she is frightened. Finally both, she and her father goes
into a room ,she
is on the carpet, he binds her to make him some nasty things.
MY INTIMATE RELATIONSHIP
She is at home while
Andy is at work, so, he is outside the house .She is concretely at the breakfast
table, later she goes to wash some
things, so the reader may think that she is in the
kitchen.
After that she goes into the kitchen, later, she goes to the
breakfast room(where probably is the breakfast table). In this chapter
,like in others, she is also
think and imagine what things she would like to do with and,
concretely she thinks “I wait for Andy to come home from work and carry me off to bed.”
Later, he comes home, he goes directly to the bed, he goes to sleep.
LIBERATION
One day, she, her brother Marc and her mother are
driving, so they are in the car, to The Gingerbread House, that
is a place where the children go while their mum is at work: Kemper
Insurance Company, that maybe it is a building or something similar.
One hour later, they arrive, they get out of the car they are in the
street now Then, Marc begins to cry, so the mother decides that they go, to
work with her,To Kemper
Insurance Company. There, the children are playing with the telephones ,which are in different rooms of the
building. At lunch time,they
go to Jack-In-The-Box, that may be
is a canteen, or bar or something similar. After it, mum brings them up
to The Gingerbread House, so, after lunch, the children go into this
house.
Some regards appear in this chapter, too. When they
are in the car, the protagonist remembers that they used to have babysitters at
home.
And Marc, when they get out of the car, remembers that
the previous day he was at class and the teacher yelled him because he
had wet his pants.
SYLVIA
She loves making list of everything she must read:books, articles…and the
last woman that she has got on that list is Sylvia Plath, because her mother
recommended her 10 years ago,
so,she decides to read her book now.She is in the bed with Andy
and while she is reading, she says to him that Sylvia had went to a mental
hospital at he same age she did.later,he fell
asleep,so,she decides to creep out od bed and to continue reading in the livingroom.
CHRISTMAS
They are a jewish family,so they
don’t celebarte christmas like the rest of the families. They are at home
because she says that they the spend the day reading at the living room,or
doing
their homeworks. In the afternoon, the children decide to go for a wolk outside,in
the street, but before going out, they go to the basement to catch
the sled. Then, they go out,and try to
play with it,but the snow is very soft. She looks carefully the street
that is very decorated.
INDEPENDENCE
This chapter lacks of espatial references.
The protagonist says that she likes lipstick because it makes her look
like a clown.
WHAT I LOOK LIKE
She is getting dressed,so,although she doesn’t says where she is,the
reader can imagine that she is one of the rooms of the house.
When she is dressed she goes out,she goes to the street, toward the
bus stop, when she arrives there, she goes walks bach home again.
PALM SPRINGS
She and Andy do a getaways to Palm Spring, and they stay at Alli’s
mother’s house. So in this chapter the main space is that house, where
they read almost all the day.
Andy leaves the books in the living room on the floor and on the bed,but
the place is the house,again.
She describes what
she sees from her house: the golf and the rests of condos. So,the reader can
imagine that they are in a kind of urbanization.
Later,they play
with a beach ball,so,they must be playing outside the house.
At night,they have
dinner by candlelight.
Finally,they decide
to sit out by the pool. Now they are outside the house, which has got a
pool.
*this is the first
chapter where tha author has done a detailed explanation of the space and the
views:
“The condo
is Allie's mother's, and I think she uses it about
once a year, because it's stale: puke green, over-exposed peach, and
reprocessed, air-conditioned air. Andy thinks "get away" means get
away from any standard of cleanliness, so the place will look like a frat house
in a few hours.”
“Our view
from the rancid living room is the sterile golf course-hole eight. There are
other condos across the green, and they all look the same--not just architechture, but the gardening--to the point where things
don't look real. The exceptions are the pools, which come up every five houses
in different and surprising shapes, like a diamond and a star.”
RISK
After two hours ,the family continue playing (risk).
Although the author doesn’t specify the place,it may be the
house, because the whole family is together playing a table game.
SWEET
In this chapter the space
is clear:the house. She takes the breakfast to his parents,so she goes to
their bedroom.
ON MY FIFTEEN BIRTHDAY
She is with her father
in a shopping center. This is the main space. All the actions take place
here:bathroom,stockin section,shoe section
and dressing room.
IT WOULDN’T MATTER IF SHE WERE HERE OR NOT
Andy’s ex-girlfrined vitits
them.
They are at Andy and Christ’s
(that is the name of the protagonist) house. In this chapter the action
is developed in the dinning room and the bedroom.
