This paper is about Julian Barnes and his last novel England, England

Abstract or summary of the research:

My main aim on this paper is to make an analysis of what means to be English for Julian Barnes, but it is not a common way of seeing it, due to the

fact that the story told in this novel is not that told by a man but by a female character. This is the most important element that makes the novel so

interesting, because there are very few books about the English history, culture and some other aspects of the Englishness, which are told by a

female point of view. The theme of the novel is, of course, England, and its main character, Martha Cochrane, makes a real meditation on the nature

of this England and also of the Eglishness, which I´m sure it will be different from that of a story told by a male character.

It's a very recent novel so, the unique material available could be the novel and some information found in Internetffdfdf
