It´s
curious that Dracula could be, in the beginning, be written for Stoker
as a methaphor of all pervert and non-wanted sexual practice that musn´t
be undergone warning us of his malefic and corruptive power, because of
this the intention of the writer was that, he completely failed. If Dracula
has facinated so many readers is mainly because of the strong sexual and
erotical content.
Maybe
deeply Stoker had an obssesive fear and an sexual illness provoked by his
curbed sexual desires (maybe guilty of his frecuentation to brothels).
If it´s true or not it´s visible in all the text, a multitud
of sexual practices non wanted from Stoker´s puritanical point of
view (in fact their reflect the society of his times): the fellatio (when
Dracula wants Mina to suck his blood), sex before marriage (Lucy vampirized
asking Arthur to kiss her), sex in group (Harker with Dracula´s lovers),
sadism (by Dracula) and a long etc. In fact the vampire is purrelly a sexual
an selfish being, therefore, modern interpretations about this topic see
a big sexual simbology in the vampire: the fangs grew bigger (falic symbol),
the erotic act of the bite and the same pleasure of it as an marvellous
orgasm, among others.
