ASHES TO ASHES

AUTHOR: Harold Pinter

PUBLISHING: Faber and Faber

AGE AND PLACE OF PUBLICATION: 1996, London

DRAMATIS PERSONAE:

Devlin: he is 40 years old more or less. He lives with Rebbeca in a small house in the country and we don’t know much about his aspect

Rebbeca: she is 40 years old too. She is Devlin’s wife and we don’t know much either about her physical aspect

PLOT: Rebbeca tells Devlin the loving adventure that she had a long time ago with another man and describes the things that the lover did to Rebbeca.  things like for example that a day  took her of the neck almost drowning her until she kiss his hand. When telling him all that Devlin has curiosity by knowledge that who wanted to kill him although Rebbeca denies that he wanted to kill her. The conversation is fragmented so it gives rise to treat several subjects.  At the end we found out that Devlin is the Rebbeca's husband and this one does everything to her that her lover did and she remembers everything perfectly

SPACE: it is a simple, unique and closed space, it is in a house in the country,  with a great window in the hall that has views to the garden.  Also we can find two lamps and two armchairs or chairs

TIME: it is a play in the present time that passes in one night of summer.  It does not have jumps nor ruptures in the time so is coherent

LITERARY RESOURCES: written in prose, with more vulgar language than colloquial language in which the fast changes of subject abound

PERSONAL OPINION: this play I have not liked much since the so fast changes of dialogues confuse constantly to you.  Also it is different from other since we are customary to that in the beginning they describe us to the characters and here until half of the play does not say to us that they are married.  Perhaps with it Pinter want to pay attention us in the inside that in the outside of a person
