Contributions to Household words and All the year round.

In 1852, Wilkie Collins began writing for Charles Dickens in Household words.These following works were written by Wilkie Collins as part of Christmas numbers of Household Words or All The Year Round. Other contributions were written by Dickens, Wilkie's brother, Charles, Elizabeth Gaskell and others. But ‘The Wreck of the Golden Mary’ and ‘A Message from the Seaare not available in e-text form.

FICTION:

1.      John Steadiman's Account  was published as a part of ‘The Wreck of the Golden Mary’, in a Christmas number of Household Word in 1856.

2.      The Deliverance First, was published as a part of ‘The Wreck of the Golden Mary’, in a Christmas number of Household Words in 1856.

3.      The Prison in the Woods  was published as a part of The Perils of Certain English Prisoners, the Christmas number of Household Words in 1857.

4.      Over the Way  was published as a part of A House to Let, the Christmas number of Household Words in1858.

5.      Trottle's Report  was  published as a part of A House to Let, the Christmas number of Household Words, 1858

6.      The Seafaring Man was published as a part of A Message from the Sea, the Christmas number of All The Year Round in1860.

7.      The Seven Poor Travelers was published in the extra Christmas number of Household Words with Eliza Lynn, Adelaide Anne Procter, and George Augustus Sala in 1854.

Plays

Wilkie Collins wrote a least 14 plays, many based on his own books. They are listed here in chronological order. The texts of these plays are very hard to find in printed form. Six are now available in e-texts along with the version of No Name written by Bayle Bernard with Collins's approval.

  2. The Lighthouse First performed 16 June 1855 by Dickens's amateur company and first professionally staged on 10 August 1857 at the Royal Olympic Theatre. 
  3. The Frozen Deep First performed by Dickens's amateur company at Tavistock House on 6 January 1857. A revised version was performed professionally at the Royal Olympic Theatre on 27 October 1866.
  4. The Red Vial First performed 11 October 1858 Royal Olympic Theatre. Never published.
