ALICE´S ADVENTURES.
Sunday, 11: 25 in the morning. I am thinking about myself.
I close my eyes to remember me when I was seven years old. I am be able to remember my bedroom plenty of fairy tales books, I have turned the pages of them a lot of times but there is one book that I have only red one time, this is titled: Alice´s Adventures in Wonderland.
Occasionally, I try to understand that odd story but I don´t manage to grasp why Alice insists on following a white rabbit which is always in a hurry…
It was some years ago of that above mentioned but I still like reading fantastic books and nowadays Alice´s Adventures in Wonderland is one of my favorites tales book. Furthermore , the little Alice fascinates me. In that sense I have wondered: why do I discover Alice and her adventures NOW? I can only answer that question in this way: this book is perhaps a book for adults. But I think that I will try to find others answers because I am not satisfied with my reply.
Suddenly, I realize that I have "the solution" near me. There is a seven- year boy playing, he is surrounded by papers, colour pencils, a ball, coloured prints…; he has got golden hair, golden eyes and golden eyelashes and his skin is so transparent!.
The real thing is that my nephew Jesus has always recalled the main character of the book Le petit Prince, by Antoine De Saint Èxupèry.
After thinking about the resemblance between Le petit Prince and my nephew, I ask him for watching the film Alice in Wanderland ( the film by The Walt Disney Company).
AFTER TWO WEEKS…
Finally, my nephew watched the film and after that:
ME: Tell me, Jesus do you know who is Alice?
JESUS: A little girl that wanted to see everything.
ME: Everything? What did she want to see? What
did she want?
JESUS: A wonderful forest , animals, to drink tea with her friends
on a large table, that a queen liked Alice.
ME: But, what would Alice want to do?
JESUS: Alice wanted to follow a white rabbit because she wanted
to know what time it was.
ME: Why did Alice wanted to know what the time was?
JESUS: Because she had not a watch and the rabbit had one.
ME: Do you know who were drinking tea on a round table?
JESUS: Yes, a man wearing a hat, a drunk rabbit, a little mouse
which was standing under a cup. This little mouse jumped
from the cup that had been opened by the man wearing a hat.
ME: What did they do?
JESUS: They broke the rabbit´s watch putting jam, butter, coffee and
bread within it.
ME: After that, what did Alice do?
JESUS: Alice could´nt return to her house and sit down on a large stone.
She cried and the animals surrounding her, too.
ME: What kind of animals?
JESUS: Vultures wearing glasses and ducks that had not a mouth but
a trumpet .
ME: Do you remember anything else?
JESUS: Yes, I remember a lot of playing cards with faces, hands,
feet, arms; and I remember a queen who used a turkey for
playing golf in stead of using a stick.
ME: Do you like the tale of Alice?
JESUS: No… well, I don´t know.
The interview with my nephew showed me that I wasn´t wrong: Alice in Wonderland is a book for adults, too. It is difficult for children to understand the odds situations, characters and places in the book.
