This paper will be, as the title says, about the two essential and basic novels written by samuel Richardson: Pamela; or Virtue Rewarded and Clarissa; or the History of a young lady.

Through a detailed analysis of the social-politic context of the XVIII century, we will discover why they have become modern novels (and why they do not belong to the fantastic world of romance), (because of that it is said that Richardson is the father of the modern novel); what the author wants to say with these novels whose heroines are women and how much impact they caused on their society.

With these aims, I will try to do a paper as interessant and useful as possible for everybody interested and keen on modern novel.
