SPACE

Within the hypertext that is being analyzed, we can distinguish two types of space: internal and external.

Referring to internal space we can mention “The Third Church”, “The palace”, “The Bedchamber” and “the dinning-room”. These places become key spaces because in them some of the most interesting events are developed. Moreover, these different spaces could be considered as different chapters of the same story.

On the other hand, we have the external space. This is referred to countries, cities… In this case many external spaces appear in the story and these ones can help the reader to place itself as it happens in the first chapter “The builders”; cities such as Serbia, Osat, Bosnia are mentioned.

In addition, most of the mentioned places are towns belonging to Serbia such as Bachevci, Kupinovo, Mirkovtsi, Mihalyevats, Bezhanija. So, they are not places known by us: we don’t know the culture, the customs, the language…and this fact can make the reader does not grasp the sense that is given to the text.

An important observation is that the hypertext begins in more general places and as the story is developing, it is focusing on more specific places. So, at the beginning Serbia and other cities are named and later the story is centred on the buildings of the church and the palace.

Finally, another relevant place is the city of Kremsmüster, where the Damascene’s message led to Attilia.
