Abstract : In this course, Teatro Inglés Siglos XIX y XX, we have covered a variety of plays from differing nineteenth and twentieth playwrights that influenced theatre at that time such as Samuel Beckett, Harold Pinter and Tom Stoppard. Furthermore, we looked deeply into the genre of the ‘Theatre of the Absurd’ which was very interesting before moving onto the newer more modern genre of ‘In Yer Face’ theatre. Not only did we study the different genres of theatre but also we read through and analysed plays in class as a group and watched films which enhanced our understanding of the plays and playwrights of the period. The course though which focused on the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, was very varied and bettered my knowledge of theatre of that period through a fun and stimulating approach.

Auto-evaluation: I have found this course, Teatro Inglés Siglos XIX y XX, very interesting and mentally stimulating. The amount of work was challenging yet very satisfying. Furthermore, I think my essay skills have improved immensely. The plays chosen for this course were very motivating as they tackled themes I had not encountered in Theatre before such as ‘Theatre of the Absurd’. In addition, I thought going to the theatre was a great element in the course as it allowed us, the students, to get fully involved and see the theatre productions themselves without solely writing about plays. All in all, I believe it was a very fulfilling course that touched on many different aspects as well as developing my writing skills.
